HISTORY
antea, temp. adv. (old form antidea or anteidea), of some
time, before, formerly, earlier, aforetime, in time past, etc.
When The Harker Upper School was established in the fall of 1998,
Mrs. Diana Nichols, Head of School, made sure that Latin was one of
the languages included in the curriculum. For the first three years
Mr. John Hawley, who holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UC
Berkeley, taught the Latin program and was JCL sponsor. Beginning in
2001-2002, he was joined by Mrs. Lisa Masoni, a graduate of Williams
College, who is now co-sponsor and teaches 1st and 2nd year Latin.
nunc, adv., now, at present, at this time.
Participation in local, state,
and national activities has grown from
the 2 who attended
HJCL's first CJCL convention to the
23 who attended in 2002. Currently 12 students
and our sponsors plan to attend the 2002 National Convention. Our
chapter had a very successful showing at the CJCL Convention in
March earning first in sweepstakes points in the Medium School
division, despite being 5th smallest
in the division. There was only one other school in the large school
division that earned more points. In addition, Harker has
expanded its Latin program to the middle school. Middle school
students continue to take an active role in Harker JCL.
posthac, adv., after this time, hereafter, henceforth, in
future (class.).
The HJCL continues to try to improve itself. Students are
working to increase participation in Harker Certamen and to create
more interesting events such as National Latin Week and Movie
nights.
